The 2010-2011 sports season officially kicked off this past weekend and BCS Stats’ completed its first stats stream for Creighton University. According to the BCS Stats’ Research Department, this was the first NCAA soccer game to be broadcasted live to a mobile platform – marking another history making moment for BCS Stats Systems and the StatBroadcast Platform.
It’s still not too late to get live stats for this school year, both on the web and on the go with StatBroadcast. Setup takes less than a week. Find out more
The preseason Top 10 rankings for FBS football were released this week. While the number one ranking has not always translated to success come December, being in the Top 10 in the preseason is huge for any team hoping to make the trip to Glendale on January 10th.
Cheers to both participants from the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, Boise State (No. 5) and TCU (No. 7), who are the first non-AQ schools to be included in the preseason Top 10. It’s also good representation for the current and future Mountain West Conference, as they make their case to the BCS committee in 2011 for an automatic bid.
Jeers to the Pac-10. Though no one seems to be mentioning it (there’s your east coast media conspiracy theory at work), this represents the first poll since 2000 that the Pac-10 has not placed a single team in the Top 10. Oregon is close at No. 11, but that ranking may prove to be a generous nod to their 2009 accomplishments rather than what they’re capable of this season. While I’m not completely writing off the Pac-10 this season, it will be interested to see who steps up in midst of the power vacuum created by the fall of USC and the dismantling of Oregon’s Rose Bowl team.
A report from the Google CEO says that Android-based phones are selling at a rate of around 200,000 per day. That’s a staggering number and should be of note for anyone who is keeping their eye on the mobile media industry. With the iPhone also set to make its debut on the Verizon network in January, it stands to reason that the percentage of cell phone users with Net-capable phones should fly past the 50% mark in early 2011.
